Teesside Branch AGM and Talk: An insight into the Welding Development Centre

All members of the Teesside Branch of The Welding Institute are invited to attend this year’s Branch AGM which will be followed by a talk from Peter Lyons, Managing Director of the Welding Development Centre .

Annual General meeting: The AGM is an opportunity for Branch members to hear reports from the Committee on the achievements and work of the Branch over the year; to make plans for the year ahead; to review the accounts and to elect the Committee for the next year.

The last 12 months have been unprecedented and now more than ever, Branches need to come together to provide, help support and encouragement to the membership as well as to the Institute as a whole.

Please note, the AGM will start at 5pm is for Branch Members only. The technical talk will commence at 18:00pm.

Talk Overview: The WDC is the only facility in the UK that provides end-to-end consultancy and advice as well as offer market leading training and completion of certifications all under one roof. We are a dedicated team of welding engineers, Welding Instructors and examiners determined to deliver  expert consultancy, training, and certification services to the highest possible standard. To achieve this, we use the latest Welding equipment from Lincoln Electric, situated within our welding facility which includes an eight-bay welder training and testing capability, as well as a Kemper extraction system to ensure welder safety.

Speaker: Peter Lyons, IEng MWeldI. Managing Director of The Welding Development Centre

Speaker Biography: Peter is European Quality and Welding engineer. He has worked around the world on some of the most ambitious engineering projects covering upstream, midstream and downstream in oil and gas and Renewable Energy.

Peter has worked as a Lecturer at TWI Training, worked in roles from Site inspector, Supply chain Auditor and Project Equipment Expeditor, Project Quality lead to Construction & Inspection Group Manager at one of the worlds Largest EPC Contractors.

Peter holds an HNC in Mechanical Engineering, ISO9001 lead auditor qualification, Multiple Inspection qualifications in Welding, Plant inspection, NDT as well as Painting and coating qualifications. He is Currently an Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered with TWI, a European and International Welding Engineer and currently studying towards an MSc in Welding Engineering at Cranfield University


Peter Is the founder and Director at NECIT, a World leading company providing Inspection, Auditing, and Expediting services to Engineering projects around the Globe. With 2500 Field personnel in 75 Countries wherever our clients are building equipment, NECIT are able to support.

During his time working with fabricators around the UK, Peter noticed a significant lacking in the market for Welding Engineering support making expertise available and affordable with ad hoc consultancy. The Welding Development Centre was born and is a NECIT Company, created to support companies in the UK with Welding Engineering consultancy support, Welder training and Testing. 

Peter is a member of the Welding Specialist and Practitioner Management Committee (WSPMC) and TWI and he is a member of the The Welding Institute Teesside Branch.
