Overview: This talk will cover manufacturing, specification, subgrade selection, certification and traceability of structural hollow sections. The presentation addresses compliance with the Construction Product Regulations and CE Marking. Guidance regarding fabrication and galvanising. Differences for tubes between BS5950 and EC3. It gives an overview of the important differences in mechanical properties between fully normalised, hot-finished and cold-formed sections, which have significant implications for design engineers. Guides and software available to assist with design. Current tube developments and finishing with some recent building case studies.
Speaker: David Chapman (Technical Manager, Tata Steel Tubes)
Speaker Biography: Dave is a Chartered Structural Engineer with 35 years’ experience in the steelwork industry. He is an engineer with Tata Steel Tubes, involved in the sharing of technical information through presentations, consultant queries and literature. Previously Technical Director at two large steelwork contractors where he was responsible for the design and construction of many Premier League football stadia, office buildings, residential blocks and warehouses.
