Recognising the pitfalls that affect the testing of welders

This is a West Midlands Branch event organised and hosted by the West Midlands Branch Committee on behalf of Branch members. Other members are very welcome to register for this talk. 

Overview: This presentation is part of a series of talks on welding qualifications and this talk focusses on “Welder qualification testing” which of course is commonplace within many industry sectors. Nevertheless, it is a very specialist as well as complex subject which can see many potential pitfalls - that can often go unnoticed.

The presentation will therefore focus on a number of potential pitfalls that can arise when conducting welder qualification tests (Also known as “Approval testing” or “Welder codings”) which are directly from Mark’s own practical experiences over many years.

The discussion will be of specific interest to those who already have exposure to welder qualification testing, or will do so as part of their work including Welding Auditors/Assessors; Structural and Design Engineers; Senior/Welding inspectors, Welding Supervisors, Welders, Welding Engineers, Welding Coordinators; Responsible Third-Party Organisations (RTPO’s) and Notified Bodies (NB’s) as well as Accreditation Bodies  

This presentation provides examples of, and answers to, some of the common pitfalls that are found when managing the practicalities of welder qualification testing. It highlights some of the common errors, inadvertent omissions and routine mistakes that can and are made in the field.

Speaker Biography: Mark Cozens CEng, FWeldI, C-IWE C-EWE is a Chartered Engineer with over 45 years involvement in the technology associated with welding and fabrication. This includes over 35 years in the education, training and professional development of a vast range of personnel involved in welding, welding inspection and non-destructive testing, from welder to inspector and from designer to engineer.

Mark has the rare ability to be able to relate to people on the practicalities of welding technology and its application from his extensive practical hands-on experiences including 35+ years of welder testing expertise.
