Alternative Energy and some technical issues.

This is a London Branch event organised and hosted by the London Branch Committee on behalf of Branch members. Other members and non- members are very welcome to register and join us for this talk. 

Overview:  The talk will cover some of the technical issues associated with alternative energy sources. It will give a review of the sources of green house gases (GHG) and the initiatives proposed for key industrial hubs. The talk will cover aspects of wind and solar electricity generation and the upgrades required in distribution. It will also address aspects of hydrogen production and its distribution and carbon capture. The talk will also overview some of the other sources of GHG that require reduction.

Speaker: Mike Lawrence

Speaker Biography: Mike Lawrence chairs the Energy Industries Industrial Advisory Group for the National Physical Laboratory and is also Secretary of the London Branch of The Welding Institute. Mike retired from Brown and Root four years ago having worked there since the 1990s on a large number of onshore and offshore projects for international clients. Prior to joining B&R he was at Bechtel where he had worked from the early days of North Sea oil and gas developments. Mike also has experience of working on power plant, pharmaceutical plant and district heating systems. Mike has a degree in metallurgy and over his 40 years in manufacturing and construction has developed wide experience in many aspects of metallic and non-metallic materials, welding and NDT in the energy industry. He has a deep interest in alternative energy and its engineering and social aspects.
