The use of special welding processes and consumables to improve weld output and quality

This is a Teesside Branch event organised and run by the Teesside Branch Committee on behalf of Branch members. Other members are very welcome to register for this talk. Non-Members are also welcome to join us.

Overview: During this event, Bohler Welding UK’s Joe Irvin and Stuart Thomas will discuss how the use of cored wires and modified welding processes can be used by steel fabricators to increase weld shop output and quality. This will be of particular interest to members interested in how fabricators can use modern technology and advances to reduce welding defects and increase welding efficiency.  

Speaker: Joe Irvin (Technical Sales Engineer) and Stuart Thomas (Voestalpine Bohler Welding)

Speaker Biographies:- Joe Irvin is the Technical Sales Engineer responsible for welding equipment within voestalpine Bohler Welding UK. Previous to his time at Bohler, Joe worked as a time served welder in various industries including oil & gas, power generation and ammonia refrigeration before coming off the tools 5 years ago in 2017. His role now includes working with fabricators across the UK and Ireland to optimise welding processes, specify the correct equipment needed and support in its use. 

Stuart Thomas joined “Bohler Welding” in 1998 as a Quality Assurance trainee. He completed welder training in MMA, GAS, MIG and TIG processes and then studied Metallurgy up to HND level.

Stuart gained EWE status via TWI Cambridge and was appointed Technical Services Manager for *Bohler Welding Group UK Ltd”. in 2009

Stuart is now responsible for consumable based technical services provided to UK and Ireland with key responsibilities focussed around Nuclear, oil and gas and pipeline industry sectors covering all welding processes and materials from unalloyed, through duplex to Nickel alloys.
