Teesside Branch Technical Talk   

This is a Teesside Branch event organised and run by the Teesside Branch Committee on behalf of Branch members. Other members and non-members are very welcome to register for this talk. .

Overview: Stephen will talk about work being done at TWI Yorkshire to develop friction stir welding in the FSWBOT and RESURGAM projects for welding under oil and under water.

Speaker: Stephen Cater (Principle Project Leader,TWI)

Speaker Biographies: Steve is responsible for research into the friction stir welding (FSW) of both thick section light metal alloys such as aluminium and magnesium, and high plasticisation point materials such as steel, titanium and nickel-based alloys. A metallurgist by training, and winner of the Richard Weck Award for his work on steel, Stephen led TWI’s Core Research Programme (CRP) into the development of FSW for steel, and also led the welding elements of two recent projects looking at steel FSW for marine construction
