This event will look at the BS EN 1090-2 requirements for inspection and NDT and review the additional requirements specified for buildings and bridges in the UK.

Focusing on the structural steelwork fabrication and installation industries, this event will be of interest to those involved with the specifying, procuring and undertaking of inspection and NDT on structural steelwork, e.g., fabrication shop managers and supervision staff, engineers, NDT technicians, welding engineers.

    Presentation titles: 

    Inspection and Testing of Welding to BS EN 1090-2

    Requirements for the Inspection and Testing of Building and Bridge Works in the UK

    Julian has nearly 50 years of industrial experience in structural steelwork. After Head Wrightson Ltd., he joined the London based consultancy Sandberg LLP in 1975 and became a Partner in 2010, Sandberg’s 150th anniversary.

    Prior to being office based, much of the first 25 years involved secondment to design consultants and certification bodies. Projects were worldwide and typically included the manufacture, installation and erection of offshore structures, bridges and buildings.

    Julian sat on a number of TWI CL committees and boards prior to semi-retirement in 2021 but still assists in the preparation of a number of UK specifications and standards.


    Alexandros Tsougkranis

    NDT Training Programme Manager, TWI Ltd

    Presentation title: An Explanation and Demonstration of the use of Ultrasonic Testing to Comply with BS EN ISO 17640, BS EN 11666 and BS EN ISO 23279

    Alex is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and has been involved in a wide range of NDT related roles including NDT equipment sales, inspection, consultancy, training and certification.

    He is Level 3 qualified in various NDT methods including UT and in the last fifteen years, he has delivered training in several countries for different certification bodies. He is now based at TWI Cambridge and he is leading the NDT training programme.
