London Branch Technical Talk

This is a London Branch event organised and run by our London  Branch for  members of the London and Kent Branches. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview:- Bush Lane House, designed by Arup Associates, is in the City of London and was constructed in 1973-5. There are large cantilevers from the pre-designated support pile and column positions (due to planned tube tunnels beneath it) which resulted in a lattice structure.  After undertaking fabrication and materials studies a decision was taken to use prefabricated tubular lattice frames filled with a cooling liquid for fire protection and fabricated from centrifugally cast duplex stainless steel tubes and sand cast nodes

Speaker:- Alan Denney (Consultant)

Speaker Biography:- Alan Denney worked as a metallurgist in the Research and Development Department at Arup and was deeply involved in the materials, fabrication and fire protection of this structure.  Alan subsequently worked in the offshore oil and gas industry for the John Brown Group of Companies, Wood Group and Saipem. He now performs expert witness work on pipeline, offshore and process engineering disputes and is one of the (voluntary) editors of Welding and Joining Matters, the Journal of The Welding Institute.
