This is a London Branch event organised and run by our London Branch in conjunction with the Institute for Corrosion (ICORR) for members of the London and Kent Branches. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.
Overview:- Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) is a damage mechanism common to power plant and industrial steam cycles systems. The rate of metal loss by FAC in carbon steel depends on a complex interplay of several parameters. The challenge is to find a functional relationship between the hydrodynamic severity of the flow (i.e. mass transfer rate) and the environmental parameters influencing the FAC rate which include: fluid temperature, pH, and oxygen concentrations. In carbon steel the amounts of chromium, molybdenum, and copper are factors in prevention of FAC. This presentation will focus on different FAC mechanisms in carbon steel and assess the relative effects of the parameters listed above in controlling the FAC damage in the absence of specific FAC predictive tools.
Speaker Biography:- Reza Beheshty is responsible for all metallurgical, welding and coating engineering activities within Fluor Corporation and has over 20 years of experience in design, engineering, and construction projects. His specific tasks include material selection, corrosion risk assessment and materials degradation evaluations, fitness for service, failure investigations, corrosion monitoring and management/mitigations strategies, pipeline metallurgy, welding and coating engineering. Mr. Beheshty has an M.Sc. in corrosion engineering is a Chartered Engineer and is a member of IOM3 & AMPP.
