Diffusion Bonding

This is event is organised by our North Scottish Branch for members of the Branch. Non-members are very welcome to join us.

Overview:- Diffusion bonding is normally used to bond the alloys, composites and ceramics which cannot be joined using conventional welding processes such as arc or laser welding.  Fundamentals of solid-state diffusion bonding of similar or dissimilar alloys and latest developments in the field will be outlined.  Exemplary applications will include fabrication of key components for vaccine sterilisers during the Covid-19 pandemic.  The presentation should be of interest to academics and particularly the research engineers who are looking for new value-added manufacturing processes. 

Speakers:-  Amir Shirzadi - Director of Cambridge Joining Technology & Senior Lecturer in Materials Engineering, The Open University

Speaker Biography:- Dr Amir A. Shirzadi is a Senior Lecturer in Materials Engineering at The Open University (UK) and the Director of Cambridge Joining Technology Limited (www.cjt-limited.com). Dr Shirzadi received his PhD on Diffusion Bonding from the University of Cambridge in 1998. He has more than 40 publications and been granted several USA, UK and European Patents, all related to his inventions on joining methods. Dr Shirzadi is a Charter Engineer, Fellow of The Welding Institute (TWI) and Fellow of Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining.
