Eastern Counties Branch Technical Talk

This is an Eastern Counties event organised and hosted by our Eastern Counties Branch Committee. Members of the Institute and non-members are very welcome to register for this event.

Overview: The Eastern Counties Branch October members talk will be presented by the Bloodhound Education Team. Bloodhound LSR, formerly Bloodhound SSC, is a British land vehicle designed to travel at supersonic speeds with the intention of setting a new world land speed record. The arrow-shaped car, under development since 2008, is powered by a jet engine and will be fitted with an additional rocket engine.

To mark the 40th anniversary of Thrust 2 rocketing through the Nevada desert in 1983, this members’ talk will explore the evolution of land speed record cars, to the present day with the engineering challenges overcome in building Bloodhound LSR, designed to achieve a top speed of 1,000mph (1,609 km/h). This talk will present the stories behind the project from low speed tests in Newquay, to it successfully completed high speed tests in South Africa of 628mph with driver Andy Green in the driving seat.
