A historical review of pulsed current arc welding – Some facts and some fiction

This is a London Branch event organised and run by our London  Branch for  members of the London and Kent Branches. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview:- Pulsed arc was first developed for TIG welding in the 1950s and 1960s and was then introduced into MIG/MAG welding, for which it has been used since the 1970s.

This review looks back at how pulsed arc welding was initially received by the welding industry and how pulsed arc welding evolved due to the advancement of technology and its resurgence in the 1980s to the present day. The talk will also include some details related to pulsed arc welding and how its use has benefited the welding community. This talk will draw on the extensive experience of the presenter, and will also highlight some of the fiction that has surrounded pulsed arc welding for many years.

Speaker Biography:- Mark Cozens CEng, FWeldI, is a Chartered Engineer and Certified Welding Engineer and has spent a lifetime involved in the technology associated with welding and fabrication. This includes over 40 years in the education, training and professional development of a significant range of personnel involved in welding engineering, welding inspection and non-destructive testing. Mark has an ability to be able to relate the theoretical to the practical hands-on side of welding and to explain the real practicalities of welding, which comes from his extensive practical hands-on experience and his extensive involvement in training
