Overview: This presentation will be about the changes in 2023, relating to the Construction Metal Work/Metal Fabricator Competition.
Speaker:- Paul Bryant (Consultant)
Speaker Biography:- My background consists of working for 30+years in the welding fabrication industry, consisting of general fabrication, boiler and pressure vessel manufacture and site installation, including pipework. During this time I also worked on the Channel Tunnel, Thames Flood Barrier, the rebuilding of the James Bond studio after it was burned down in the 1980s and the Eden Project in 2001. In 2003 I went into teaching at a Further Education College, teaching welding fabrication, mechanical and maintenance engineering, at level 2 and 3.
During this time I became involved in the Association of Welding Fabrication Teaching and Education, for many years I was a member of the management committee, and in 2020 became vice chairman then in 2021 chairman. It was during this time that I was invited to become a judge for the Construction Metalwork Competition which is one of the skills in the Worldskills UK portfolio, in 2020 I took over organising and running the competition as Competition Manager.
In 2013 I took redundancy and went back into industry with a structural steel company as RWC to set up all the systems required for their CE certification.
In 2018 I started working part time as an NVQ assessor for two colleges in Surrey and Sussex until 2022. Since then I have been working part time as RWC for a small structural steel company, running training courses when required, and organising the Construction Metal Work/Metal Fabricator competition.
