Scottish Branch Technical Talk

This is a joint Scottish Branch event organised and run for the benefit of members of both The Welding Institute and BINDT. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview: This presentation will give an introduction to ECA for offshore pipelines, challenges and opportbyities for applicatin in the working envitonment.

Speaker: Dr Lingjun Cao (ECA Team Manager, Subsea 7)

Speaker Biography: Dr Lingjun Cao has a Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees in aeronautics from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China and a PhD in fluid mechanics from the University of Southampton.  Roles with Deepsea Engineering Ltd followed  involving pipeline engineering, complex rigid flowline and riser detailed engineering projects, as well as advanced engineering projects involving extensive FEA.

Lingjun moved to Subsea7 in 2010 and has been with Subsea7 for the last 14 years. He has primarily worked on offshore flowline/riser ECA, and currently holds the position of ECA team manager. Besides working with conventional ECAs, Lingjun has worked extensively on FE-based ECA for partially over-matching or fully under-matching girth welds under large plastic strain and high pressure/high temperature conditions.

Lingjun has extensive experience of ECAs for CRA welds in metallurgically clad pipes, as well as the ECA of overlay welds in mechanically lined pipe.

Since joining Subsea7, Lingjun has led numerous ECA projects, covering a wide range of geological field sites and pipeline types. Lingjun has co-authored several technical publications for conferences on the topics of FE-based ECA methodology, unconventional weld ECA, and general ECA strategy in pipeline design.

Please note, the meeting will open at 18:30 for informal neyworking. The presentation will start at 7pm.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Attending this event supports your professional development.  You can claim 2 CPD points per hour for this event.  As a member of the Welding Institute you can record your CPD activity online from your membership portal.
