Adhesive bonding technology is probably the oldest industrial joining process, with evidence of adhesive material on stone tools which are over 190,000 years old. Despite such a heritage, absolute understanding of adhesion is still imperfect.

Ewen will endeavour to explain what actually makes things stick, the challenges and opportunities associated with adhesion and s

how where adhesive bonding technology could take us in the future. Ewen will show where bonding has been the best solution de

spite the temptation to reach for a hammer and nails! The brakes and clutch plates in your cars, some of the world’s most advanced aircraft, the needles in most syringes, the fillings in your teeth, the furniture you use, the shoes on your feet, mobile phones, medical sutures and even that critical mail order package, all rely on adhesives. Life as we know it would not exist without adhesives and we cannot live without the stuff!
