London and Kent branch is inviting you to this interesting talk on corrosion on manufactured alloys. Both members and non-members are welcome. The technical talk starts at 6 pm, with refreshments available from 5.30 pm for those attending in person.
EVENT TOPIC:
The environmental testing of metallic parts manufactured using traditional methods (such as wrought plate, pipe, forgings and castings) is well established, with the existence of many standardised test procedures. Additively manufactured (AM) components pose some unique challenges when it comes to corrosion testing, and best practice guidelines are evolving. For example testing of AM materials produce more scatter than their wrought equivalents. This lecture will present the testing issues relevant to a number of industries, including the example of the performance of AM Alloy 718 in a sour (H2S-containing) environment for the energy industry
MEET THE SPEAKER:
Speaker Name: Dr Briony Holmes CEng MWeldI MIMMM
Principal Project Leader, TWI Ltd
Dr Briony Holmes has worked at TWI Ltd for the past 21 years. She has over 25 years’ experience working as a metallurgist/corrosion engineer with many different industries, including energy. Her specialty is welding metallurgy, environmental testing, environmental cracking and corrosion performance and characterisation of wrought, welded and additively manufactured stainless steels and corrosion-resistant alloys, including clad and lined pipe products. She is also proficient in electron microscopy and microanalysis, and is an experienced trainer. She participates in international standards activities in the field of corrosion.
