Training, Qualification and Quality (TG9)


INTRODUCTION

The Training, Qualification and Quality Technical Group provides a Member forum for discussion of weld quality and the means of achieving it ‘right first time’. TG9 will provide events and activities within its scope of technical education, training, qualification, competence assurance and career progression. Topics will includewelding codes and standards and their implementation, causes and avoidance of deficiencies in weld quality, and strategies and approaches to deliver quality assurance and quality control of welding operations within welding quality management systems.

Meet the Chair

EUR ING David Reeves CEng FWeldI

After starting his working life as a technical apprentice with Whessoe Heavy Engineering Ltd in 1976, David went on to become a Senior Welding Engineer for Onshore Construction in 1985. Since 1991 David has worked in Offshore Oil and Gas occupying a variety of roles for installation contractors, engineering companies and operators. He is currently working for Saipem Romania as a Senior Welding Coordinator.

As an active volunteer with The Welding Institute David sits on both MERC and the Professional Board as well as being a member for the editorial panel for Welding and Joining Matters. David was the Chair of the Structural Integrity Technical Group before establishing and being the inaugural Chair of TG9 which he now co-chairs with Chris Eady.


Meet the Co-Chair

EUR ING Chris Eady BSc (Hons) MSc CEng FWeldI FIMechE

Chris is an independent consultant delivering projects in training and qualification solutions, professional development and role competence assurance for a wide range of employers, providers and awarding organisations across key industrial sectors, including clean energy, defence, construction and advanced manufacturing.

Chris has extensive experience in management and development of personnel for manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance of safety critical systems in both the public and the private sector, and specific understanding of personnel competence requirements from national and international regulations, standards and specifications.
