Titanium: Applications and Processes

JOIN OUR METALLIC MATERIALS TECHNICAL GROUP (TG3) WEBINAR

Titanium has a very specific role to play in manufacturing, with particular strength to weight benefits, but is a complex material to process for a number of reasons.

Presentations will cover the basics of titanium, the specific requirements in how to handle and weld it to achieve a good quality, and also more niche joining/processing methods.

Who should attend?

Welders, welding engineers, metallurgists, quality engineers in aerospace, automotive, defence, engineering and fabrication, space.

Experts from industry and TWI Ltd will be presenting on a range of topics:

  • Tracey Holmes, Technical & Business Development Manager, Bibus Metals Group, on Unlocking Potential: Industrial Applications of Titanium and its Alloys

  • Luke Keane, Director, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, on Weld Purging for Zero Colour Welds

  • David Howse, Technology Fellow - Arc Welding Engineering, TWI Ltd, on Quality Control for Titanium Welding
  • Paul Brooker, Manufacturing Support Manager, TWI Ltd, on Joining of Titanium using Thermal Heating Process

  • Dr Pedro de Sousa Santos, Senior Project Leader, TWI Ltd, on Linear Friction Welding of Structures for Near-Net Shape Manufacturing

FEES

Please note that payment must be made before the event in order to receive the joining instructions for the event.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

David Howse

Quality Control for Titanium Welding

David has worked in Welding Engineering for over 30 years. In that time, he has gained wide experience in developing arc welding processes for a range of material types, including applications that required the development of welding parameters for titanium alloys.

Luke Keane

Weld Purging for Zero Colour Welds

Luke has been with the company for the last 12 years and in that time progressed to become a company Director, looking after the 45 exclusive world-wide distributors.

Over the last 12 years Luke has been heavily involved in product development, helping to design bespoke solutions and take HFT innovation to the next level. More recently, he has been working very closely with a nuclear client involved with HPC and designed a unique blocking and purging system for the welding of duplex sump boxes.

Tracey Holmes

Unlocking Potential: Industrial Applications of Titanium and its Alloys

A metallurgist by education, Tracey has 15 years of experience in the metals industry. Her early career was focused on nickel-based alloys. Since joining BIBUS Metals in 2018, her horizons have broadened to include titanium and its alloys and specialised stainless steel grades.

Dr Pedro de Sousa Santos

Linear Friction Welding of Structures for Near-Net Shape Manufacturing

Dr Pedro de Sousa Santos is a Senior Project Engineer at Friction Welding and Processing section at TWI, Ltd. His work focuses on the development of friction-based welding technologies, predominantly for the aerospace and space sectors. Pedro’s PhD research, co-funded by TWI Industrial Members and Coventry University, addressed the development of the refill friction stir spot welding process for lightweight aerospace applications. He is also affiliated with the Engineering council and The Welding Institute and is an active STEM ambassador.
