Structures and Infrastructure Technical Group (TG1)

The Structures and Infrastructure Technical Group covers the production of components and assemblies using various welding processes.
The topics discussed include design for manufacture and performance, forming, cutting, heat treatment, fabrication and distortion control; manufacturing support systems and associated standards including welding co-ordination and Factory Production Control for CE/UKCA marking.

The Technical Group meetings focus on relevant current developments and provide a forum to network and exchange ideas.

Meet the TG1 Chair

Julian French CQP IEng FInstNDT MCQI MWeldI FIAQP

Julian has nearly 50 years of industrial experience in structural steelwork. After Head Wrightson Ltd., he joined the London based consultancy Sandberg LLP in 1975 and became a Partner in 2010, Sandberg’s 150th anniversary.

Prior to being office based, much of the first 25 years involved secondment to design consultants and certification bodies. Projects were worldwide and typically included the manufacture, installation and erection of offshore structures, bridges and buildings.

Julian sat on a number of TWI CL committees and boards prior to semi-retirement in 2021 but still assists in the preparation of a number of UK specifications and standards.
