Technical Group Webinar

JOIN OUR POLYMERS AND COMPOSITES TECHNICAL GROUP (TG7) WEBINAR

What will the role of Polymers and Composites be in the Transition of the Oil and Gas Industry?

This event will explore the diverse range of applications that use polymers and composites and why these special materials are selected. It will provide insight into the range of fluids and harsh environment in which they must endure and perform reliably.

The webinar will also touch on some recent developments, and how polymers and composites can play a role as we transition from traditional oil and gas to a cleaner hydrogen economy.

Aims of the webinar:

  • To explore how and why polymers and composites are used in oil, gas and energy transition applications

Experts from industry and TWI will be presenting on a range of topics:

  • Phil Berry, General Manager - Market Development, Future Pipe Industries (FPi) - Scale and diversity of composite pipes

  • Dr Abderrazak Traïdia, Science Specialist and R&D Programme Lead, AramcoSuccess and barriers to polymers and composites in O&G applications

  • Dr Ramin Moslemian, Principal Consultant, Energy Systems, Offshore Infrastructures, DNV - Polymers and composites in the emerging hydrogen economy

  • Dr Bernadette Craster, Technology Fellow, TWI Ltd - The harsh environments that polymers and composites can endure

MEET OUR EXPERTS

Philip Berry

General Manager – Market Development, Future Pipe Industries

Presentation title: Scale and diversity of composite pipes

Philip Berry has over 30 years’ experience within the Oil & Gas sector. Starting out in the field of rotating equipment prior to joining Future Pipe Industries 15 years ago. In addition to covering major international capital projects, he has also been extensively involved in R&D and the development of internal/external education and knowledge sharing programmes.

Dr Ramin Moslemian

Principal Consultant, Energy Systems, Offshore Infrastructures, DNV

Presentation title: Polymers and composites in the emerging emerging hydrogen economy

Ramin Moslemian is a Principal Consultant of Energy Systems Infrastructures at DNV. He holds a PhD degree from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Wind Energy and has more than 12 years of consultancy experience across the value chain of oil and gas as well as low-carbon energy systems.

His area of expertise include CCUS, H2 and offshore wind infrastructures as well as high-performance non-metallic material technologies.

Dr Abderrazak Traidia

R&D Specialist – Program Leader, Aramco

Presentation title: Success and barriers to polymers and composites in O&G applications

Abderrazak Traidia is an R&D Specialist at Saudi Aramco with expertise in mechanics of materials. He joined Saudi Aramco in 2012 and has actively contributed to establishing and leading multiple teams and R&D programs in the general field of asset integrity management with particular focus on hydrogen embrittlement of metals and polymer degradation in hydrocarbon service.

He co-led the establishment of Saudi Aramco’s Nonmetallic Innovation Center (NIC) in Cambridge (UK) in 2018 and is currently assigned to the Aramco Overseas Company in London (UK) managing partnership R&D projects in Europe in the field of polymer composites for energy applications.

Abderrazak holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique (France). He represents Saudi Aramco in various RTO research boards and JIP/standards technical committees. He co-authored over 17 peer-reviewed publications and 25 conference proceedings. He is also a co-inventor for 13 Saudi Aramco granted patents.

Dr Bernadette Craster

Technology Fellow - Polymeric Materials, TWI Ltd

Presentation title: The harsh environments that polymers and composites can endure

Dr Bernadette Craster is the Technology Fellow on Polymeric Materials and Ageing through Permeation Processes at TWI. She has studied transport processes through non-metallic (inorganic and organic) materials since 1989. Bernadette worked in the research laboratory of a service company on permeation processes related to high pressure CO2, H2S and water, and barrier development applications for wellbore products.

Since 2012 at TWI Ltd, in addition to studying hydrocarbon fractions, the permeation of hydrogen gas through non-metallic materials such as thermoplastics and thermosets have also been considered. Bernadette works with seven colleagues (PhD scientists, engineers and experimentalists) who support the activities in the ageing through permeation facility on small and large scale samples and at all TRL.

Previous projects for Member companies include some permeation aspects of multi material products such as flexible risers, flow lines, polymer lined pipe, thermoplastic composite pipe, reinforced thermoplastic pipe and reinforced thermoset pipe. TWI also has activities on sensor performance and underwater cables. The overall aim is to assist the member company to assess the residual lifetime of the product.
