East Midlands Branch Technical Talk

This is an East Midlands Branch event organised and run by our East Midlands for its members. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview: The talk will delve into the exciting developments in FSW. Starting from a general introduction to the FSW process, and the recent development relating to Steel FSW and novel process variants, Jeroen will give real-world examples of how SMEs and large enterprises can make use of the technology. Furthermore, he will delve into the cost, weight and sustainability benefits it brings for a range of industries.

Speaker:  Dr Jerome De Backer (Technical Director, StirLight) 

Speaker Biography: Jeroen is director at StirLight, the UK’s first friction stir welding contractor business. He has extensive experience in FSW, working 5 years as a researcher at University West in Sweden and 10 years as project leader at TWI in Sheffield.
