Technical Group Webinar

JOIN OUR PROCESS AND PRESSURE SYSTEMS TECHNICAL GROUP (TG5) WEBINAR

Who should attend?

Integrity Engineers, Mechanical/Materials/inspection personnel and anyone with responsibility for managing safety critical pipework, vessels and plant.

What will you learn?

With the constant challenge of managing the integrity of ageing plant and assets, composite repairs are being applied in increasing numbers and with increasing service lives. This webinar is aimed at providing an overview of the selection, design, application, and management of Defined Life Composite Repairs (DLRs) for pressure systems. This will include the UK Regulator’s view on the use of Defined Life repairs, consideration of in-service inspection methods and an overview of current relevant standards and specifications.

Experts from industry will be presenting on a range of topics:

  • David Johnson, Deputy Chief Scientific Advisor, HSE Science Division - TBD
  • Chris Scales, Specialist Inspector - Material and Corrosion, HSE Energy Division - Regulatory Aspects of Engineered Composite Repairs
  • Dr Paul Hill, Service Line Manager - Composite Repair, TEAM - An Update on the Changes Planned for ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 401
  • Dr Simon Frost, Technical Director, ECS Ltd. - Significant Defects in Composite Repair Systems
  • Gareth Urukalo, Technical Director - Composites, ICR Integrity - Fatigue and Fire Testing of Composite Repairs
Please note that this event will be recorded.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

Chris Scales , Specialist Inspector - Material and Corrosion, HSE Energy Division - Regulatory Considerations of the use of Defined Life Repair Solutions for Pressure Systems

Chris graduated in Metallurgy from the University of Manchester in 1994. He now has over 27 years of experience in industry, in the areas of Metallurgy, Welding, Corrosion, Inspection and over the last 10 years, as a Specialist Inspector in Materials and Corrosion with The Health and Safety Executive’s Energy Division. Beginning at CAPCIS in Manchester, Chris learned the fundamentals of failure investigation. Moving to join OIS plc in Aberdeen in 1998, he worked as a Metallurgist, providing services to numerous Oil and Gas operators both on and offshore.

Having spent a number of years sitting on the MoD’s Defence Standards Corrosion Committee, Chris is currently involved in the HOIS (Inspection) JIP and the Energy Institute’s Corrosion Management and Asset Integrity Committee.

Simon Frost, Technical Director, ECS Ltd. - Significant defects in composite repair systems

Dr. Simon Frost has worked with applications of composite materials within the Oil and Gas industry for the past 20 years. He is Technical and Innovation Director of Engineered Composite Solutions, a supplier of composite repair solutions. His main responsibilities are ensuring the technical quality of all aspects of Futurewrap composite repairs, accreditations, innovation and new developments. Previously, he was Technical Director for ICR Ltd, another supplier of composite repair solutions, Shell International Exploration and Production providing advice and guidance in the application of the composite materials and ESR Technology working as a technical consultant in the use of composite materials.

Previously, he was chairman of 2 ISO committees working on composite materials. The first was composite repairs for pipework, ISO 24817. The second was GRP piping, ISO 14692. He is also a member of the PCC-2 Composite repair and PPC – NMR (Non-metallic materials) committees.

Paul Hill, Service Line Manager - Composite Repair, TEAM - An Update on the Changes Planned for ISO 24817 and ASME PCC-2 401

After obtaining his PhD studying the long-term performance of composite materials, Paul worked for a pipeline operator for seven years. He combined this experience to lead on the development of composite systems for reinforcement and repair of impaired metal components including bridges, ships, trains, pipes and vessels. He was a founder member of both ISO and ASME groups that developed the standards covering composite repairs and is the Project Lead for the current systematic review of ISO 24817.

Gareth Urukalo, Technical Director - Composites, ICR Integrity - Fatigue and Fire Testing of Composite Repairs
