Sheffield Branch Technical Talk

This is a Sheffield Branch event organised and run by our Sheffield Branch for its members. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview: If you have an interest in welding some of the more difficult carbon steels, this presentation will give you an insight on the factors to be taken into consideration when selecting the pre and post weld heat treat temperatures, the correct filler metal grade and the parameters to use.

Specific topics covered are:

  • The metallurgy of steels made in the 1940’s & 50’s and their weldability.
  • The composition of high carbon steels, and their relevance to pre heating and interpass temperatures on welding.
  • The factors that determine the correct selection of filler metal for welding tool steels.
Speaker:  Tomislav Buzancic BSc IWE (ESAB)

Speaker Biography: Tomislav is a member of the ESAB’s Global Value Added Engineering Team with 20 years experience as a welding and R&D engineer with a speciality in materials, for several major organisations in Sweden, including Avesta, Uddcomb Engineering, Fauracia and Alfa Laval.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Attending this event supports your professional development.  You can claim 2 CPD points per hour for this event.  As a member of the Welding Institute you can record your CPD activity online from your membership portal.
