Launch of TG9: Training, Qualification and Quality

The Welding Institute hosted our flagship Annual Members' Day on 15 October 2025 where we launched our new Technical Group: TG9 - Training, Qualification and Quality chaired by EUR ING David Reeves CEng FWeldI and EUR ING Chris Eady BSc (Hons) MSc CEng FWeldI FIMechE.

The presentations explored how practical welding skills, process control and quality relate to welder competence, the role of welding coordinators, and the development of welders to meet employer needs from the perspectives of practitioners, coordinators and trainers.

The Group will be a member forum for discussing weld quality and how to do it "right first time" is offered by the Training, Qualification, and Quality Technical Group. Events and activities that fall under TG9's purview of technical education, training, certification, competence assurance, and career advancement will be offered. The application of welding codes and standards, the reasons behind and preventative measures for weld quality problems, and methods and techniques for providing quality assurance and quality control of welding activities within welding quality management systems will all be covered.
